Can I give blood if I’ve had mono?
BySomeone told me that mono stays in your system forever. I want to give blood to my grandfather who has mesothelioma (lung cancer) but I’ve had mono. Can I still give blood?

According to the Health Library of CNN you have to wait 6 months, but after that, you can!

You would have to make sure that you were not in the active phase anymore. So you would need to take a blood test for EBV IgM and IgG to make sure that you no longer had any IgM (an indicator of activity). Someone else said 6 months, but it is possible you could still be in the active phase for more than 6 months so a blood test would need to be done to confirm you’re in the convalescent phase. As long as you have no IgM you should be fine to give blood.
Good luck!
